Hermanus Whale Route
The months from June to November bring us several thousand Southern Right Whales that migrate from the Antarctic region to the waters of the Western Cape. The two to three thousand kilometer journey is undertaken purely for purposes of either mating or calving in our calmer and warmer waters. The False Bay and Indian Ocean coast lines boast numerous excellent sites for viewing these magnificent mammals, just meters from the shore.South Africa has always been known for its wildlife which includes the BIG FIVE.In the last ten years with the huge increase in whale numbers to our shores due to conservation, we are now able to talk about the BIG SIX.The Whale Route Tour takes you along the far side of False Bay with its panoramic views and the rich floral diversity of the Cape Fold Mountains, finally arriving at the whale sanctuary of Walker Bay in Hermanus. The coastal town of Hermanus is perfectly situated for whale viewing with cliff-side walking paths and a plethora of restaurants to enjoy the sea food and local wines.
